Westmoreland County Community and Development officials are looking to help residents that with issues involving lead paint in their homes.
The Trib reports that the county will do this through a $3.4 million federal grant. This will be for homes built before 1978 where a child six years of age or younger lives or visits at least six hours a week. The homeowners would also have to meet income guidelines.
Twelve communities will be targeted by the effort, including Jeannette, Greensburg, Avonmore, Monessen and New Kensington, but any home in the county can be addressed. So far, county commissioners have approved 17 projects. The grant would remove and remediate any problems caused by lead-based paint.
