Once again, the wildfires in Canada are affecting the air quality in Western Pennsylvania.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has once again put a Code Red Air Quality Action alert in place for Westmoreland County and for all of Pennsylvania until midnight tonight.
Fine particulate matter in the air triggered the Code Red Air Quality Action Day. Young children, the elderly, and those with respiratory problems, such as asthma, emphysema, and bronchitis, are especially vulnerable to the effects of air pollution and should avoid outdoor activities. Everyone else should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion.
Residents and businesses are also asked to not have open fires to burn leaves, trash and other materials, and to not use gas powered lawn and garden equipment.
