More information was released about a police shooting that resulted in the death of a man in Ligonier Township.
The Trib reports that police were responding to a domestic disturbance Sunday afternoon when they encountered 59-year-old Robbie Saunders, who was armed with a machete when officers arrived at the home on Gravel Hill Road. County detectives said that Saunders aggressively approached the officers and was shot once by police.
Saunders was taken to Conemaugh Memorial Hospital, where he died. Saunders’ son, Jonathan Faidley said that his father was on dialysis and his ammonia levels spiked to the point that a psychotic break happened, and said that it was a failure of the system and of police training.
The investigation is ongoing.
