A reactor at a coal-fired power generating station near Pittsburgh caught fire last night. WTAE-TV reports that the Duquesne Light station on Brunot Island caught fire around 8 PM Monday night. A reactor failure sparked multiple explosions that resulted in one large fire and several smaller ones. There were no reported injuries. Kokkila said crews couldn’t immediately attempt to extinguish the fire due to 340,000+ volts within the station. Barges and tugboats were used to transport fire crews to the scene as there is no vehicle bridge to the island.
