Greensburg’s former police chief has waived his right to a preliminary hearing on charges of theft from the department’s evidence locker.
The Trib reports that 42-year-old Shawn Denning was arraigned on Tuesday morning and is free on his own recognizance. The charges stem from an audit of the evidence rooms in Greensburg. A backpack containing suspected steroids and psilocybin mushrooms was to be destroyed but it turned up missing instead.
The deadline for an indictment in the federal case is set for Aug. 22, though it has been pushed back several times.
