State Representative Jill Cooper from Murrysville has suggested that legislators’ pay be suspended if the state budget is not passed on time.
The Trib reports that Cooper is seeking supporters to co-sponsor a bill to that effect. Cooper said that she has not accepted her pay for July and is prepared to continue to do that in August.
Neither the House or Senate is scheduled to return to Harrisburg until September. The bill proposal in its current form would suspend compensation for the governor, lieutenant governor and members of General Assembly during a budget impasse.
