A pair of candidates running for local office in East Huntingdon Township may not be able to serve if elected due to their criminal records.
The Trib reports that Jonathan Perkey, who is running for township supervisor, was convicted in 2005 on two felony counts of criminal mischief in connection with incidents from 2003 related to fires set at a local auto repair business and to his vehicle in a field on his family farm.
Meanwhile, Tina Curry-Bashioum, who is running for East Huntingdon’s Board of Auditors, pleaded guilty in 2004 to felony charges that she sold illegal drugs to an undercover investigator, according to court records.
Legal experts say that anyone convicted of an infamous crime is barred from holding public office, and the Attorney General or District Attorney could remove them from office.
