The Hempfield High School was placed on lockdown yesterday after it was discovered that three fifteen-year-old students were seen exchanging two loaded handguns.
The Trib reports that students who saw the exchanges on the school bus and at the school told administrators, who then contacted state police around 11:30 yesterday. Authorities did not identify the students involved, or on which bus the first incident took place. School resource officers found the weapons in the students’ backpacks during a search.
The three students have not been charged with crimes and are being treated as juveniles. They will not be attending the high school in the immediate future pending further review, according to Superintendent Tammy Wolicki. Additional security measures will be in place for today.
