New Kensington officials earlier this week held a special meeting to reject bids for trash collection.
The Trib reports that on Tuesday, officials rejected bids from their current provider County Hauling for $17.7 million for automated trash hauling and $19.9 million for the current method of curbside. Both would be five year contracts.
Mayor Tom Guzzo said the bids were rejected because of the drastic cost increases. The motion allows the city clerk to advertise and rebid for the service.
