The Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County said that if some precipitation doesn’t come soon, customers in the Saltsburg area of Indiana County and other areas of Westmoreland, Allegheny, Armstrong and Fayette counties served by the Beaver Run Reservoir may be asked to conserve water.
The authority says that the reservoir level is around 1034.1 feet of elevation above sea level, but the average level is 1041.1 feet. Once it reaches 1034 feet exactly, the authority will seek voluntary conservation measures from those served by Beaver Run Reservoir. This would affect 56,000 customers, with many of those customers located north of Route 30. This would also affect municipal authorities in Monroeville, Plum Borough, Parks Township and Gilpin Township, as those authorities are supplied by the MAWC. Precipitation at the reservoir is down 13.25 inches from 2022, and only .37 inches has been recorded there in the past month.
MAWC has been in contact with state officials, who are working with them to ready its water conservation plan.
