A man from New Florence is in Westmoreland County Jail as he was charged with the aggravated assault of an infant.
The Westmoreland County District Attorney’s office announced the filing of charges against 30-year-old Christopher Timko after his arrest yesterday. Timko allegedly took a two-month-old child to a doctor in Blairsville on November 28th for treatment of what was initially considered a rash but was later diagnosed as an abrasion bruise. The doctor said that the child should be taken to UPMC Childrens’ Hospital, but Timko did not seek further treatment. Westmoreland County’s Children and Youth Services followed up with him the next day, and noticed the child had bruises. Timko took the victim to Childrens’ on the urging of CYS, and while at the hospital, state police were notified. The victim was diagnosed with bruises, possible rib fractures and fractures on both legs. Timko was interviewed at the hospital by authorities, and he admitted to physically abusing the child over the last two weeks while the child’s mother was out.
Timko is now facing charges of aggravated assault of a child, endangering the welfare of children and obstruction of justice. He was denied bail and will remain in Westmoreland County Jail until his preliminary hearing on December 8th.
