Westmoreland County’s District Attorney is asking local police departments to have prosecutors review body-cam footage from major cases before it is released publicly.
The Trib reports that this comes four months after footage of an incident where Ligonier Township Police released footage of officers responding to a domestic call firing a stun gun and a handgun simultaneously when confronted by 59-year-old Robbie Saunders, who was wielding a machete. He later died at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital.
A spokeswoman for Ziccarelli’s office previously said the district attorney was not involved in the decision to release the video. Ziccarelli now says she believes the release of the video, which shows the face of one of the officers, could be a safety issue.
