A Monessen Teenager will be tried as an adult for the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old in 2022.
The Trib reports that 17-year-old Terry Newton’s request to have his case tried in juvenile court was rejected by common pleas court judge Scott Mears. In his ruling, the judge said Newton’s extensive criminal record as a juvenile and the impact of the Nov. 29, 2022 fatal shooting had on the community warranted the case to continue to be prosecuted in adult court. Police say that Newton shot 16-year-old Amari Altomore while the teens played video games in Newton’s room.
A trial date has not been set.
