Police say that a Jeannette woman left two children less than a year old at home while she went to steal a car on Saturday.
The Tribune-Review reports that police were called out to Clay Avenue at 8:30 in the morning on Saturday for a report of a vehicle stolen and returned. When they arrested the suspect, Amber Taverner, she said that the two children, aged 10 months and 7 months, were at her home with a man whose name she did not know.
Officers said the house was in deplorable condition, and the children were sleeping on the kitchen floor.
Taverner has denied the allegations and was also unaware that the man in the home had a warrant out for his arrest. She now faces charges of child endangerment, theft, receiving stolen property and DUI, and is free after posting $10,000 bail.
