Officials with Norwin Schools are considering a state-approved initiative that could provide tax breaks to senior citizens who volunteer in the district.
School board members have asked administrators to look into setting up a “senior tax reduction incentive volunteer exchange”, or STRIVE, program. The system would encourage area residents over the age of 60 to spend time with students by offering property tax breaks worth at least seven dollars and 25 cents for each hour they volunteer.
School Board President Matt Thomas says the district is in the very beginning stages of research into the proposal.
