Saint Vincent College is working on some additional water quality improvements by making changes to the wetlands at their Archabbey property in Unity.
The three wetlands were established in the late 1990’s to naturally filter iron and other mine run-off contaminants out of the water in Loyalhanna Creek, Monastery Run, and Fourmile Run. The college is using state grant dollars to make changes that will force the water to flow through the wetlands more slowly and will add more oxygen.
The work will build on the water quality improvements the area has seen over the last couple of decades, according to project leaders.
