A new solar-powered electric vehicle charging station is being installed at Saint Vincent College this summer. West Penn Power’s Sustainable Energy Fund is providing 30-thousand dollars for the install. The system will use a Smartflower Solar cell that can track the sun across the sky and fold up to clean itself at night, according to project planners. Saint Vincent Assistant Facilities Director Terrence Hill says they will start with one charger then possibly expand once they can measure the power the solar cell is generating.
