A New Kensington man is charged with assaulting an officer in a city holding cell. The Trib reports that the incident happened on friday night after 46-year-old Eugene Sharpley was arrested for public intoxication after an incident at an establishment on Fifth Avenue. He initially resisted arrest, and as he was being placed in a cell to sober up, he began to fight with officers and held on to an officer’s leg, stopping him from leaving his cell. The officer threatened to use the taser on him, and while it was not used, Sharpley allegedly kicked the officer in his leg as he left the cell. On top of the public drunkenness charge, Sharpley now faces charges of aggravated assault and resisting arrest.
