A retrial got underway yesterday for a Unity couple accused of raping and sexually assaulting a young woman between 2011 and 2014. The Trib reports that Bruce Palmer charged with rape, aggravated assault, and other crimes, and was ordered to serve four to eight years in prison following a trial in 2018. His wife, Marie, was convicted at the same trial of lesser counts of child endangerment and reckless endangerment and ordered to serve two years of probation. Both sentences were vacated in 2019 by Judge Tim Krieger saying the victim’s testimony was deficient of specifics and corroborative detail, not credible, and that her emotional outbursts in and out of the courtroom were deliberate attempts to sway jurors. Testimony continues today.
