A tuition increase is being considered at Westmoreland County Community College. The Trib reports that the tuition hike could come in the fall after the county cut $1 million in funding from the college as part of the 2024 budget. In 2023, the county allocated more than $3.56 million to WCCC, including more than $2 million for general operations. Commissioners allocated a total of $2.5 million for 2024, with just $1 million earmarked for general spending. Board chairman William Kerr said the county allocation is used to subsidize tuition for Westmoreland County residents who attend the school. Officials for WCCC say they now have to examine all opportunities in order to keep tuition low for students.
