Leaders at Franklin Regional School District are planning to add a weapons detection system at their senior and middle schools. The district’s safety committee has decided to go with the OpenGate system, portable scanners that can detect weapons on a student or in their bag. Superintendent Gennaro Piraino says the technology will enhance traditional bag checks and make the process faster for students. The Hempfield Area School District is also planning to test the OpenGate system this month.
