Westmoreland County Commissioners last week voted to divert over $1.3 million in local hotel revenue to fund some tourism programs for this year, but they are also looking ahead to next year, when the nation celebrates its 250th anniversary. The Trib reports that $631,000 will be used for general construction projects, including upgrades at Twin Lakes Park and Upper Dam Lake, Mammoth Park and Historic Hanna’s Town, and another $201,000 will go to replacing recreation equipment, while the remaining hotel tax funds are controlled by the county commissioners to be designated for tourism programs. Commissioners say they want to focus on Hanna’s Town as the nation gets ready to celebrate it’s 250th anniversary.
