The Westmoreland County Commissioners approved paying an additional one million for the recent demolition and reconstruction of the county courthouse garage. The Trib reports that the increase was due to several unanticipated work items and costs that exceeded the original scope of work. The most expensive item, costing about $450,000, involved reconstruction of holding cells for the county sheriff’s office that extended from the original portion of the courthouse into the adjacent work area for the garage and plaza. That original amount and the $1 million addition will all be paid for from the county’s share of federal covid relief funds.
