While prosecutors said that the driver in a fatal crash in Hempfield was under the influence of drugs, her attorney claims that the vehicle conditions caused the crash. The Trib reports that opening statements were heard yesterday in the trial of 44-year-old Ahna Malik of Sewickley. Prosecutors claim she was under the influence when she tried to pass two cars by pulling into oncoming traffic and collided with a northbound vehicle driven by 27-year-old Dawn Coyne of Madison, but her attorney said that her car was in such a state of disrepair that her car pulled to one side and that caused the crash. The trial continues today.
