A Ligonier Township K-9 officer was assaulted Friday as a suspect was fleeing the scene of the crime.
The Tribune-Review reports that police tried to pull over a vehicle on Peoples Road on Friday night for a suspended registration, but the driver, later identified as Nathaniel J. Munden, sped away, going through a residential area and wrecking in a ditch near Carey School Road. Munden got out and continued to flee on foot, going into some nearby bushes. After he didn’t come out, police sent their K-9 officer Kilo to get him out, but Munden hit the dog several times, causing an injury to the dog’s eye.
Munden, along with the assault charge, is also charged with DUI, fleeing, reckless endangerment, and other crimes, and is being held in Westmoreland County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
