Today is Christmas for those of the Orthodox faith, and yesterday was a special celebration as the upper lake at Twin Lakes Park near Greensburg was blessed with ice crosses.
The Tribune-Review reports that this was part of a “blessing of the waters,” a tradition of throwing ice crosses into the lake that is continued by parishoners of St. Michael’s Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church. The service yesterday recognized the Feast of Theophany, the day that Orthodox Christians recognize as the day Christ was baptized in the Jordan River.
