A jury found a Latrobe man guilty of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of his friend who tried to stop the robbery of a Pittsburgh-area dealer.
The Tribune-Review reports that a jury of eight men and four women found Zachary McGrath guilty in the January 2016 shooting death of Daniel McNerny in front of a home on St. Clair Street. He was also convicted of robbery, conspiracy and a firearms offense.
McGrath’s defense attorney had asked for acquittal during the trial, saying that the killing was the result of an accident.
McGrath will be sentenced in about three months. He faces a mandatory life sentence without parole on the second degree murder charge.
