Police in Jeannette are switching over to an electronic ticketing system for traffic violations.
The Tribune-Review reports that the police department was able to get scanners for four of their vehicles for free through a grant program, and they are waiting for a fifth to be added. The devices can scan a license and automatically fill in an electronic ticket on computers in the cruisers, and then the ticket can be printed out and given to the driver. The system will also allow the ticket to be sent electronically to the district judge’s office for filing.
The system is meant to save time for officers, who can complete the traffic stop quickly and get back on patrol.
