Independence Health System’s Chief Medical Officer has decided to retire. The Trib reports that today is the final day for CMO Dr. Carol Fox. She steps down after a 38-year medical career. Fox became a leading voice in Westmoreland County in 2020 when local officials and medical professionals were confronted with the arrival of the covid-19 pandemic. County Commissioner Sean Kertes said she played a pivotal role in helping everyone understand and respond to Covid-19. As she steps down, Dr. Michael Fiorina will take over for her. He had been serving as the Chief Medical Officer in the system’s Butler and Clarion region.
