The lawyer for a Laurel Mountain man who was jailed nearly five years ago on charges that he killed his live-in girlfriend says his client is not fit for trial due to head injuries, and wants a judge to rule him incompetent to stand trial.
The Tribune-Review reports that 62-year-old Gregory Randall is charged with the murder that allegedly happened in May of 2014. Police say that Randall beat 52-year-old Angela Marie Cavalero 29 times in the head and face with a hammer and a wine bottle during a domestic dispute. Her body was found six days later.
Randall’s attorney says that Randall can’t help with his own defense due to a condition prior to his arrest, which limits his memory. The judge is expected to make a ruling later this year.
