Two West Newton parents are facing charges of child endangerment and reckless endangerment for failing to follow a doctor’s advice concerning the care of a child.
The Tribune-Review reports that 37-year-old Tiffany Aquilina and 38-year-old Robert Aquilina were arraigned yesterday in Westmoreland County Court. The charges stemmed from an incident on Friday, when, according to court documents, Tiffany took her child to her pediatrician. The medical staff reported the child smelled of marijuana. The doctor recommended that the child be taken to UPMC Children’s for treatment several issues, but when the pediatrician’s staff checked in later that day, they found out she didn’t take the child to the hospital. After Children and Youth Services contacted them about the child, they were told the child was being taken to Ohio. That’s when CYS and police stepped in and arrested the parents.
The child was removed from their custody. The two are now in county jail on $50,000 bail each.
