Unity Township Supervisors have approved giving qualifying volunteer firefighters a break on their township taxes starting next year.
The Tribune-Review reports that the program was approved during a meeting Thursday night. Supervisor Ed Poponick said that the program should not only give the tax breaks they feel are deserved, but it should also help fire departments with enrollment.
The program provides eligible firefighters with a rebate equal to 20 percent of their township property tax bill and a credit of up to $250 towards the earned income tax.
