Forensic investigators took the stand yesterday during the re-sentencing hearing of Melvin Knight.
The Tribune-Review reports that during Wednesday’s session, forensic scientist Sarah Keener testified that there was no genetic evidence that would suggest that 30-year-old Jennifer Daugherty was raped before she was killed. She also stated that the evidence could have been washed away or eliminated if the rape occurred several days before her death.
Testimony is expected to continue today. Knight pleaded guilty to his involvement in the 2010 killing of Daugherty, but an appeals court in 2016 overturned a death sentence and ordered that a re-sentencing hearing take place.
