In 1968 Pink Floyd founder Syd Barrett officially left the group.
In 1971 The Rolling Stones announced the group formed its own record company, Rolling Stones Records, in Cannes. The company was developed to promote the band’s music. “Brown Sugar” became the first hit by the Stones on the new label.
In 1974 200,000 people attend the “California Jam” rock concert at the Ontario Motor Speedway in California. The line-up includes Earth, Wind & Fire; Black Sabbath; Deep Purple; and Emerson, Lake & Palmer
In 1979 British singer Rod Stewart marries American model and actress Alana Collins
In 1988 Iron Maiden released the album “Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son.”
In 2005 Material from Nirvana, The Beach Boys, the Allman Brothers Band, James Brown, and The Penguins were added to the National Recording Registry, which collects and archives documented sound recordings in America.
In 2010 New releases included Slash’s self-titled solo album.
In 2016 Country music legend Merle Haggard died on his birthday at the age of 79, following a battle with pneumonia. Best known for songs including “Okie from Muskogee,” “Bar Room Buddies” and “Fightin’ Side of Me,” Haggard was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1994. He won a slew of awards over his career, including a Kennedy Center honor and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
