The attorney for Westmoreland County Sheriff Jonathan Held has filed an appeal for dismissal on the two remaining criminal charges against him.
The Tribune-Review reports that Held is facing charges as part of a public corruption trial. Held is awaiting a retrial on a felony charge of conflict of interest and misdemeanor theft related to accusations that he had sheriff’s department staffers perform duties related to his re-election campaign in 2015 while those staffers were on county time.
The first trial ended in a mistrial when jurors were unable to reach an unanimous decision. Defense attorney Ryan Tutera said that the judge should have granted the dismissal because there was not enough evidence to prove the allegations were true.
