Seton Hill University will hold its annual Kristallnacht observance tonight at the university’s St. Joseph Chapel, and this year’s service comes as the memory of the shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Squirrel Hill is still fresh in everyone’s minds.
The Tribune-Review reports that the service that serves as a solemn remembrance of the violence that happened 80 years ago tonight when Nazi party members went on a violent spree, burning, looting and vandalizing Jewish homes, businesses and synagogues in Germany and even killing people of Jewish heritage.
Featured speakers tonight include Ruth Drescher and Shulamit Bastacky, both of whom survived the Holocaust by fleeing Germany or hiding in Lithuania.
