Some local environmental advocacy groups are asking the State Department of Environmental Protection to stop deep well gas drilling around the Beaver Run Reservoir.
The Tribune-Review reports that Protect PT, a Penn Township environmental group, along with the Westmoreland Marcellus Citizens Group and the Mountain Watershed Association, feel that the reservoir should be more protected. Some of the groups are calling for a halt to all existing and future well permits around the reservoir and increased testing for pollutants related to gas drilling and production.
John Ashton of the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County said testing has shown no impact on water quality since the pressure incident was reported in January.
