The Catholic Diocese of Greensburg has warned their parishioners about a potential phishing scam.
In this case, phishing means that someone is sending messages in the name of reputable sources to get people to reveal personal information or make gift card purchases and send them the gift card numbers.
WTAE-TV reports that the diocese received reports of someone texting parishioners, making it look like it’s from their priest, and asking them to buy gift cards and send back the numbers. Parishioners were asked not to respond to these messages during Mass on Sunday.
