The trial of a New Stanton man who is accused of killing a pedestrian walking their dog on Christmas Eve in 2016 gets underway today.
The Tribune-Review reports that the trial of 31-year-old Matthew Ramsay will get underway today, one day after a jury was selected for the trial. Authorities say that Ramsay was under the influence of drugs when he deliberately swerved his vehicle on Ruffsdale Alverton Road in East Huntingdon, and collided with 49-year-old Joseph Cummins as he walked his dog on the side of the road. Ramsay allegedly fled the scene and tried to hide the car, but eventually confessed, saying he didn’t know he hit anyone.
Ramsay is charged with third-degree murder, vehicular homicide and other crimes, and could face up to 40 years in prison if found guilty of murder.
