Westmoreland County Commissioners are looking to ban any politicking by county employees while they are on the job.
The Tribune-Review reports that the county commissioners on Thursday approved a revised policy that prohibits workers from performing any political activity while on the clock or coercing any employee to conduct any campaign work or any other similar tasks during the work day. Also, campaign materials are not allowed on attire, on desks, or near any work stations are banned. The exception is for areas of the courthouse that can be rented out by the public or open spaces like the courtyard in front of the courthouse which is used for rallies and gatherings.
Commissioners said this was not in response to the ongoing trial of Sheriff Jonathan Held, who is charged with public corruption for trying to get sheriff’s department employees to do some campaign-related chores while on duty for the county.
