Westmoreland County Commissioners approved paying fines totaling $75,000 concerning a fall at a county-owned nursing home.
The Tribune-Review reports that the state and federal fines came from an incident when a nurse’s aide improperly lifted someone from a bed rather than use the required mechanical device. The patient was injured during that attempted transfer, according to inspectors. The county was able to negotiate lesser fines on both the state and federal level.
The inspection on May 23rd showed the aide was trained in the proper procedure, but neglected to use it. Inspectors also said the aide was not working his usual assignment and was a relatively new employee as well.
County officials confirmed that the aide does not work at the county-owned home anymore.
