One of the men charged with killing Daniel McNerny was sentenced yesterday in Westmoreland County Court.
The Tribune-Review reports that 24-year-old Zachary McGrath was ordered to serve a life sentence in prison without the possibility of parole. He was charged with second-degree murder, robbery, and conspiracy for his role as the gunman in the shooting.
Prosecutors say McGrath shot McNerny twice as he attempted to intervene in the robbery of a drug dealer. One of his co-conspirators, Austin Krinock of Johnstown was convicted of second-degree murder but because he was a juvenile at the time, he was not eligible for a life sentence. He will spend 34-years in prison minimum before he is eligible for parole.
21-year-old Colin Gearhart was convicted in this case and he will be sentenced later this year.
