The inmate population at the Westmoreland County Prison is now down to its lowest levels in a year.
The Prison Warden, John Walton, informed the prison board that there were just 590 inmates assigned to the jail. The jail averages 623 inmates in March. Probation officials say that the number of inmates released to house arrest last month increased by more than 30.
