The solicitor for Derry Borough confirmed yesterday that Derry’s mayor, who faces charges of aggravated assault, has submitted his letter of resignation.
WTAE-TV reports that Mayor Kevin Gross is facing those charges connected with an incident at a park near his home. His son was involved in a scrap, and he went out to the park, Gross allegedly pulled a gun on one of the other boys and ordered him to his knees, with his hands above his head. He also allegedly pointed the gun at a group of girls, telling them to put their cell phones and other belongings down. He later surrendered the gun to police. Police also confiscated 55 guns from his home as part of his bail.
Derry’s borough council president was going to take over while Gross was incapacitated, but it’s not known now who will become the mayor now that he’s resigned.
