An 11-year-old boy died on Thursday afternoon in a crash on the PA Turnpike near New Stanton.
The Tribune-Review reports the crash happened at 2:00 PM Thursday between the New Stanton and Donegal exits. The victim was identified by Westmoreland County Coroner Kenneth Bacha as Hayden Field of Connellsville Township. The boy was riding with his father, a Turnpike Commission employee, when the crash happened. He was the front-seat passenger of an SUV that rear-ended a tractor-trailer for an unknown reason. Field was trapped in the pickup and was declared dead at the scene.
Airbags did deploy and he was wearing a seatbelt.
