Police have accused a Jeannette City School Director of taking thousands of dollars out of the district’s band parents association.
The Tribune-Review reports that 56-year-old Karen Welshons, the former president of the association, is expected to surrender today on two counts of theft. District officials reported in February that money was missing from fundraisers run by the band parents association, and the treasurer said that Welshons did not turn in money from fundraisers she took part in or planned.
All told, she is accused of stealing $6,386, and while she has repaid some of the discrepancy, there is still more than $2,000 remaining to be paid.
