Eleven priests won a State Supreme Court decision to keep their names and other information out of the grand jury report on sexual abuse by clergy across the state.
WTAE-TV reports that the court ruled 6-1 to keep the names out of the report. Justice Debra Todd wrote the opinion for the majority of the judges, saying that if their names were released, the reputations would be tarnished forever, and she also acknowledged that the outcome is not what a lot of people, especially abuse victims, want.
State Attorney General Josh Shapiro said that while his office can’t release the names, he feels the state’s Catholic bishops should.
