Excela Health: Childbirth, Infant Care Classes

Excela Health offers a variety of childbirth and parenting classes to prepare parents for this new responsibility. Some classes have a fee. Inquire when registering.
CHILDBIRTH CLASSES
For first-time parents, Childbirth and Beyond covers labor and birth options for pain control, cesarean birth, postpartum, the normal newborn and breathing/relaxation techniques. A two-week class meets 6:30 to 9 p.m., Wednesdays beginning March 20, Memorial Conference Center, Ground Floor, Excela Westmoreland Hospital.
Breastfeeding Success promotes successful breastfeeding by providing techniques, studying newborn feeding behaviors and sharing common challenges. Class meets 6 to 8:30 p.m., March 7, Conference Room D, First Floor, Excela Westmoreland Hospital. A Weekender version meets 9 to 11:30 a.m., March 23, Conference Room D, First Floor, Excela Westmoreland Hospital.
Tours of the Family Additions Maternity Center at Excela Westmoreland Hospital are offered 2 p.m., March 17.
PARENTING CLASSES
Family and Friends CPR meets 6 to 9 p.m., March 5, Conference Room D, First Floor, Excela Westmoreland Hospital. This non-certificate class addresses how to help a child who is choking, has stopped breathing, or whose heart has stopped. Class ideal for parents, older siblings and others who will provide child care.
A two-part class, Infant Care teaches the basics of baby care. Information will include the physical appearance of the newborn, hospital procedures, newborn tests, physical care technique and car seat safety. Bring a doll for practice. Class meets 6:30 to 9 p.m., March 6 and March 13, Conference Room D, First Floor, Excela Westmoreland Hospital.
