CNX Resources has been awarded a contract to pay $13,000 for each 1.5 million gallons of water that will be drawn from the Beaver Run Reservoir to be used for fracking. The Trib reports that the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County originally halted the sale of the water to CNX as the reservoir was going through a drought period that left water levels well below seasonal averages and triggered mandatory water conservation measures. Those restrictions were lifted on March 12th. Between the 15th and the end of this month, the company can purchase up to 3 million gallons a day. The authority will earn more than $25,000 day if CNX purchases its full allotment of water.
