A nuisance home in Jeannette is being torn down to make way for a new fire station. Last week, the city council voted to accept the donation of a property on South Second Street. Local officials have until the end of the year to spend a one-point-two-million-dollar grant that has been provided for the fire station project. The city has also applied for another two-million-dollar American Rescue Plan grant. Fire Chief Bill Frye says they should have enough funding for the build if the second grant is approved.
